Bryan Stott credits a well-meaning employer with giving him the break that led to where he is today. Bryan grew up in Christchurch and by the end of school still didn’t know what he wanted to do.
“All I knew was that I was interested in sport. I was given a break early on in life to work in a furniture shop in Christchurch. Eventually I made my way up to become the sales manager.”
Today Bryan and wife Rachael own Wairarapa’s biggest specialist furniture retail store in Masterton. The couple opened Bryan’s Furniture 16 years ago, after moving to the Wairarapa where Rachael had grown up.
Bryan’s Furniture has been expanding ever since and three years ago moved to its present location at 132 Lincoln Road, Masterton, giving it 24,000 square feet for display and storage with plenty of easy car parking.
Bryan’s Furniture has developed strong supplier relationships and is proud to stock popular brands including, La-z-boy, Danske Mobler, Stressless, Masport BBQ’s and Eden Outdoor furniture.
Beds-Beds-Beds is Bryan’s latest addition which gives the ability to cherry-pick the best beds from recognised bedding suppliers including, Sealy, Beautyrest, Sleepmaker &
SleepSystems. Despite the size of the store, Bryan’s Furniture has never lost its small town atmosphere and service. This is in large part due to staff who work there, says Bryan who describes himself as “just the figurehead.”

“The true assets of the business are three great women – Glenda and Jane who have been with us for 16 years, and Angie for over 10 years. They take great pride in listening to our customers and matching them up with the best solution for them. They know the products to the nth degree but still enjoy being tested with those challenging questions.”
“We also keep as much control as possible of the supply chain from the order right through to the delivery, for quality piece-of-mind shopping.”
Bryan’s Furniture is a member of New Zealand’s largest independent buying group, and Bryan personally chooses some unique products at international trade shows.
“One of the advantages of being a locally owned business is that we can offer more selection than big chains, while being part of the different groups gives us excellent prices to pass on to our customers, and being independent allows us to select products suited to the Wairarapa.”
Bryan’s Furniture also promotes their Best Price Guarantee, giving shoppers peace of mind. Bryan and Rachael are also pleased to have in the same complex The Shape Shop Fitness and Nutrition run by Lynda and Stephen Oldfield who focus on women’s fitness and health.
Completing the mix is Lisa Bull who caters for her clients at the popular Bella Dame Hair Studio.
